A pepsin/hydrochloric acid cleaning solution is used to remove protein deposits, especially from pH electrodes. The enzyme pepsin breaks down proteins and the hydrochloric acid creates the acidic pH value necessary for the pepsin to work. The cleaning solution dissolves protein contaminants, thereby maintaining the function and service life of the electrodes.
