Karl Fischer Titrators

The water determination according to Karl Fisher (KF) is the most selective and precise method for water determination. There is the volumetric and coulometric method.

The coulometric titration generates the iodine directly in the titration vessel which allows the determination of very low water concentrations. The advantage is also that you do not have to determine the concentration of the titrant. With the volumetric method the iodine is added accurately through a piston burette.

The volumetric titration is the more general method suitable for almost all kind of samples. Suitable for chemical, petrochemical, plastic and pharmaceutical as well as the food industry. The samples could be either liquid, solid or gaseous. Besides the selection of the right KF reagents, e.g. a higher temperature and/or the use of a disperser allows to determine the water content in many samples.
