BOD measurement without dilution – direct and compliant with standards

The OxiTop®-i is a respirometric BOD measurement system from WTW® for in-house monitoring of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in the laboratory. The system measures undiluted samples in accordance with DIN EN 1899-2 – a decisive advantage over the traditional dilution method, as it eliminates the need for complex conversions.

The measurement principle is based on pressure measurement in a closed system: The oxygen consumed by microorganisms during the degradation of organic substances generates a measurable pressure drop. This is continuously recorded by the measuring head and displayed directly as a BOD value on the backlit LCD graphic display—no separate evaluation device is required.

The measurement duration can be freely selected between 1 and 7 days; seven different sample volumes ranging from 22.7 to 432 ml enable measurement ranges up to 4,000 mg/L BOD.

For whom is the system suitable?

The OxiTop®-i is designed for wastewater treatment plants, municipal and industrial laboratories, as well as environmental monitoring agencies that are required to perform standard-compliant BOD self-monitoring. The system is suitable for domestic wastewater as well as for industrial wastewater contaminated with organic or inorganic substances.
