Drinking water monitoring – a challenging task for our health and environment

Drinking water monitoringDrinking water is of great importance for human health and the protection of our environment. It must not only comply with legal requirements, but also meet the highest quality standards to minimize potential health risks. One of the key requirements is to ensure water quality throughout the entire supply process - from extraction to distribution. It is therefore essential that drinking water can be reliably and accurately monitored to detect contamination at an early stage and take appropriate action. Drinking water measurement brings its own challenges. This means that measuring instruments and sensors must be highly accurate and durable to provide continuous and reliable data. In addition, measurement systems must be low-maintenance, simple and safe to install to save time and costs. Complex assembly and calibration processes can not only increase the effort, but also represent sources of error that can lead to inaccurate measurements.

Installation and commissioning

Our measuring panel was developed with a focus on easy installation and commissioning. On the panel, all piping, hoses, the flow-through cells and – if ordered – the turbidity analyzer are already connected and ready for operation. This saves tedious gathering of individual components and installation work on site. The additionally ordered modules and sensors are quickly mounted and the automatic recognition of the sensor technology saves the time-consuming parameterization.

For precise control of the flow, the panel provides a flow indicator and a pressure reducer that allows you to adjust the flow rate to the sensors. This protects the measurement equipment and additionally saves time and costs that would be necessary for a separate installation of a pressure reducer. Most importantly, you reduce flow rates and avoid wasting valuable drinking water with a minimum flow rate of 15 liters per hour due to small sensors and suitable flow cells. At the same time, the integrated valve makes it easy to shut off the supply for maintenance or cleaning without having to install a separate valve.
 

Measurement and Maintenance

Our drinking water measuring panel offers you an efficient solution for measurements and maintenance work. Without interrupting the ongoing measurement, sample can be taken conveniently and directly into the beaker via the sampling tap. Due to the immediate proximity of the tap to the sensors, the correct reference measurement already starts during sampling.

To maintain, check or calibrate sensors, they can very easily be removed from the flow-through cells and inserted into the maintenance console. The sensor is then immersed in a beaker with cleaning solution, test standard or calibration standard. Disassembly of cables and long trips to the laboratory are thus a thing of the past. The maintenance console makes it easy to work directly on site.

Thanks to the self-explanatory design of the panel, potential errors and confusion are reduced to a minimum. Sensors with short 1.5 m fixed cable save space and prevent cable chaos. Alternatively, we offer plug-in head sensors in some cases. These have the advantage that you can replace the sensor on its own and therefore do not need to install a new cable. This is particularly useful for pH or redox measuring chains, as these will need to be replaced at a regular basis.

Cleaning the flow-through cells is particularly easy with our design. With hand screws, the flow cells can be quickly and easily dismantled with the mounting rail from the front. The hoses can also be very easily disconnected by hand. Once the flow-through cells are removed, the supplied open-end wrench can be used to loosen the screw connection of the sensors and thus clean the cells with a brush in no time at all. The open-end wrench is always available through the provided holder on the panel and no long searching is required. A brush for cleaning is also included and can be conveniently attached to the panel.

To keep the cleaning intervals as long as possible, we have opted for the use of black flow-through cells, as these are less susceptible to algae growth due to the exclusion of light, in contrast to transparent ones.
